It's tough to name something that Amazon doesn't offer. Publishing, retail goods, and now wireless networks. Kind of. Amazon is currently testing a wireless network in Cupertino, California, that uses Globalstar's broadband spectrum. This news has sparked a ton of debate, including a possible answer to the question: is Amazon working on its own smartphone?

Why Wireless Is Needed

Wireless is needed for smartphone usage, that much is true. It's also needed for Amazon's Kindle. Wireless isn't really an arena that other companies competing with Amazon have stepped into, though. Companies like Apple are perfectly happy relying on other carriers, and have no real desire to enter the wireless market.

Amazon, on the other hand, doesn't seem to know where to stop when it comes to services offered. Innovating and branching out is a good thing, but Amazon may be going too far where wireless is concerned. On the other hand, Google has been testing out high-speed Internet in some parts of the U.S. for some time now. If Amazon succeeds in the wireless venture, the company may just be a part of everything you do.

Amazon Everywhere

Imagine this: Amazon would provide the way that you connect to the Internet; what device you use while on the Internet; and what you do while you are on the Internet. Heck, at this point, the Internet should just be named 'Amazon.' Amazon is always looking for ways to increase the company's technology, though this plan might backfire.

Some people may worry that Amazon is controlling too much if (when) Amazon Internet and Amazon phones arrive. The e-commerce company has come a long way from its humble beginnings, and now it's the place to go if you want to buy something cheap or purchase an e-book. It's tough to compete with a company this big, too.

When Amazon Wireless Will Arrive

Right now, at the time of this writing, Amazon is just testing out that wireless option. The company has declined an offer to comment on the situation by a number of journalists, and that might mean that there is something big going on. It could also simply mean that Amazon isn't ready to disclose details of the new wireless network. Either way, Amazon's news is big news, and it could mean a whole new wireless option in the near future.

It's not likely that Amazon's wireless offerings will be available until much later this year or next year. But, the fact that Amazon is testing it out means that the company is close to a breakthrough. If Amazon does offer phones and wireless to go with those phones, will you become an Amazon consumer? I'm betting that a lot of people won't like this idea, but, then again, it all comes down to money in most cases, and Amazon certainly has more than enough of that.

When Amazon does finally reveal wireless plans, you'll find the details you are searching for right here. For now, though, we sit back and wait for Amazon to make Amazon Wireless a reality.
