Whenever a company stops manufacturing a device, concern follows. The trend has been that once a device is gone, updates for that device disappear as well. This might soon be the case for the Google Nexus 4. Google insiders report today that the company will no longer be making or selling the Nexus 4 following a complete sell-out of the device.

Google sold out of the 16GB version of the phone recently, and now there are just a few Nexus 4 devices left in the Google Play store. Since rumor has it that Google will not be replenishing this stock, what is the company up to next? And, more importantly, what should you do if you have a Nexus 4 right now?

Google's Next Move

According to reliable sources, Google and LG plan to work together to create a new phone. This phone might be called the Nexus 5, though that name has not yet been confirmed by either company. The new phone will likely replace the Nexus 4, though, and this has some new Nexus 4 owners feeling a bit worried about future updates.

Since Google has just sold out of the Nexus 4 recently, it would be great if the company could keep updating this device. However, that's not how things usually go down. If you currently have a Nexus 4, Google will likely still help out where support is concerned, but you may not get any new updates one the Nexus 5 rolls out. When will that be?

The Nexus 5 Release Date

After doing some digging, I've found that some tech blog are reporting an October release date, which would make sense given the fact that the Nexus 4 is no longer being manufactured. Some blogs are also reporting that the Nexus 5 will come with the new Android KitKat, though Google has not announced or confirmed this rumor yet.

So, what you need to know right now is that Google will not be selling or making any more Nexus 4 phones, and that the Nexus 4 is officially sold out in the Google Play store. Google has not yet stated whether or not the Nexus 4 will continue to receive updates, and there's no launch date for the Nexus 5 planned as of this writing.

A Lot of Google News

That's a lot of Google news to digest! All of this comes from the fact that the Nexus 4 is sold out, too. Seemingly, those that have purchased or played with the Nexus 4 love this phone, and those same people are hoping that the Nexus 5 will be just as great.

All signs point to an October or November release date for the Nexus 5, so hold onto your money if you're still deciding what kind of new phone to get.

Right now, there are a couple of interesting choices on the market, but I'd hang on until Google comes out with its new Nexus offering. Pricing? Details? Other features? I'll keep you posted once Google lets some additional details fly!
