Montreal, Canada, gaming development studio, Eidos Montreal, has been contracted by Crystal Dynamics to build a multiplayer version of the upcoming Tomb Raider re-launch. If you’re a Tomb Raider fan, you’ll love what the Montreal team has been putting together.

The multiplayer version of Tomb Raider hasn’t officially launched yet, but the game is almost complete and has been reviewed by some. While all the details haven’t been launched yet, it’s safe to say that the new Tomb Raider will be entertaining. Take a look below to find out what’s in store for multi Tomb Raider gameplay.

Options, Options, Options

What would a multiplayer game be without options? The new Tomb Raider will come with a regular Team Death mode, but that’s not all. You’ll also have the chance to play the game from the standpoint of a rescuer or from someone who needs rescuing. The “Rescue” mode features two further options: survivor or scavenger. As a survivor, it will be your task to round up medpacks and deliver equipment to various checkpoints. Should you choose “Survivor” mode, your main objective will be killing to survive.

Should you choose the “Cry For Help” mode, you won’t be rescuing or killing quite as much, but you will be working with others to stay alive (Eidos hasn’t released Cry For Help details yet). The exact details are somewhat elusive right now, though Eidos will be launching the game in just a few months, so additional details are bound to arise shortly. Of course, a new game mode means new characters, and Eidos isn’t letting fans down.

Multiplayer Character Options

Not everyone can be Lara Croft, so Eidos is presenting gamers with other options. Exactly which characters will be available to select from is unclear at the time being, though Lara Croft may, or may not, be a multiplayer selection. The game will also feature various customization options aimed at making gameplay more personable.

Can’t wait to check out the new Tomb Raider? Developers have announced that the launch date for this game is March 5. The game will be available on a number of consoles including Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.

Companies that have outsourced games in the past haven’t faired so well, but the Montreal studio responsible for the new multiplayer Tomb Raider has a decent track record. The company has won five CVA awards, has worked on such titles as Final Fantasy VII and Hitman Absolution, and comes with a solid team of developers. Crystal Dynamics has outsourced the multiplayer portion of Tomb Raider to Eidos, so that the parent development team can work on the single player version of the game.

So far, all looks promising. Then again, some gamers would rather see Tomb Raider die a slow death, or just end before the game is run too far into the ground. Are you a Tomb Raider fan? What do you think about the new multiplayer mode? Has Tomb Raider seen better days? Is this game even worth revamping? Let me know in the comments.
