  • Is This the End of Zynga?

Zynga has enjoyed a good amount of gaming success. The San Francisco-based company is behind such popular titles as PetVille, Vampire Wars, Mafia Wars, and a multitude of other smartphone and Facebook apps.

But, in a turn of events all too often true, Zynga’s heyday might be coming to a close. It seems that the company has spread itself too thin, too quickly. Eating up resources, Zynga has had no choice but to shut down some popular games and stop allowing new players to join ongoing games.

Games No Longer Available As Of Today’s Date

As of today, the following Zynga games will no longer be accessible: Mafia Wars, Vampire Wars, PetVille, Mafia Wars 2, Fishville, Treasure Island, Indiana Jones Adventure World, Mafia Wars Shakedown, Forestville, Montopia, Mojitomo, and Word Scramble Challenge. Not only will those who love Zynga’s games soon be without a virtual pet world or the bragging rights of being the top Internet mob boss, some users have spent large amounts of money investing in various Zynga games.

Zynga made some of its money by selling various gaming items to gamers. Once purchased, these items could then be used during gameplay. Now, items purchased for use with one of the aforementioned games will simply disappear. What can you do about it? Not a heck of a lot.

Zynga simply doesn’t have the cash to keep going at the moment. Zynga’s not giving up completely, though, the company wants to keep going. That’s why Zynga is currently offering a free bonus package full of virtual goodies to users new to existing Zynga games.

Games That Are Still Up and Running

Presently, a few Zynga games are still working. Those games include FarmVille 2, Mafia Wars, YoVille, ChefVille, CastleVille, and various others (30 titles in total are still up and running). The free bonus package that Zynga is offering includes a number of free items that will make getting hooked on a popular Zynga game much easier.

In order to redeem one of these packages, though, you must have used a recently shut down game in the past. To grab your free goods, simply head to the old game site, log in, and redeem your package. You can then use this package in any of the lasting Zynga games.

Games Across Smartphone and Other Platforms

Even though Zynga is cutting most of the company’s Facebook apps, there are still plenty of games that can be access through Android, iOS, MySpace, Zynga’s home site, and various other sites. While you can’t save your beloved PetVille pet from extinction or redeem any of the money you might have spent, you can learn a valuable lesson from Zynga’s recent crackdown: don’t spend lots of time and money playing Facebook games.

Or, just be prepared for companies like Zynga to disappear as quickly as they showed up. Zynga is still trying to keep afloat, keep gamers hooked, and keep developers on staff. For now, though, the future for Zynga doesn’t look too bright.
