The PlayStation 4 officially arrives on November 15th. Along with the new console comes an update. An update? Already? How can that be? As it turns out Sony doesn't have time to install the updates before the consoles roll out, but gamers can update the consoles for free as soon as they arrive.

Necessary Adjustments

In this case, the update to the new PS4 is completely necessary. Without the update, you won't be able to play Blu-ray discs, DVDs, or use Remote Play. So, that means that as soon as you open up the box, you'll have to go through the update process. This is going to annoy some gamers (and some kids that might get the console for the holiday season).

But, there are so many great things about the PS4 that a small update isn't going to bother too much. Unless, of course, you live in an area with really bad connectivity. In that case, getting a console that doesn't completely work will be a big hassle for you. If that's the case, I highly recommend asking the store that you've purchased the console from to install the update for you.

Not Such a New Thing

To some, Sony's update news is upsetting and frustrating, but we have to keep in mind that this isn't such a rare thing. Often, Windows PCs need updates of all kinds after purchasing, and even Apple systems may require an update or two right away. The fact of the matter is that updates are a part of tech life, so setting up your new PS4 with an update isn't such a big deal.

When the console does launch, it will be available online and through all major electronics dealers. If you want to get your hands on the console, I suggest signing up in advance. Otherwise, it's going to be tough to get one! Keep in mind that the aforementioned updates are completely necessary in order to fully use the new console, but you should be able to use everything just fine once the update is complete.

Additional PS4 News

Sony has also announced that four users can log into the system at once. Players can separate save data, so that each player has gameplay saved. One additional bonus to the new update is that going through this process will allow players to use facial recognition and voice commands in order to make gameplay even more enticing.

How long will the update take? I'm estimating one day or more than a few hours. But, again, this is an update that you don't want to go without. Sony has also told press today that some PS4 features won't be available right away including suspend/resume mode, which will be functional in the near future - hopefully, soon after the console has actually been released.

What do you think of the update news? Is this a big deal, or is it really just a matter of hooking the console up, updating it, and going about your gameplay? Let me know what you think!
