Is the Barnes and Noble Nook on your holiday list this year? Or, are you just curious about the Nook? Well, there’s no time like the present to purchase a new Nook. Barnes and Noble is cutting Nook Tablet and Nook Color prices once again. This time around, Barnes and Noble has dropped Nook prices quite a bit. The Nook Color is now retailing for $139, and the 8GB Nook Tablet has been cut to $159. If the 16GB Nook Tablet is more your speed, you can now snag one for $179. As you can tell, these prices are really hard to pass up if you want a Nook. So, the question now is: do you want a Nook?

If you’re looking at a Nook and want to know what else is out there, chances are you’ve also come across the Amazon Fire. Which one is better? Well, that’s a tough question to answer, but it is worth comparing the two before you settle on either one. For comparison’s sake, let’s take a look at the Amazon Fire and how it compares to the Barnes and Noble Nook.

Fire vs. Nook

Both the Nook and the Fire come with HD 720p screens. The Fire has 243 pixels per inch and the Fire has 216 pixels per inch. The Nook comes with 1.3GHz Dual Core processor, and the Fire comes with a 1.2GHz Dual Core processor. As you can see, both of these e-readers are really quite comparable. If you choose the Fire, you may have to put up with full-length advertisements. This is something to consider if you can’t imagine ads filling up your screen on a regular basis. But, there’s something else that’s really important to think about before you make your decision: the Fire comes with Amazon’s vast selection of content.

Barnes and Noble does have lots of titles to choose from, but Barnes and Noble is no Amazon. When you choose an Amazon device, you will have instant access to more titles than you can possibly imagine. If content matters to you a great deal, it’s worth it to go with Amazon over Barnes and Noble. As far as pricing goes, the new Barnes and Noble Nook prices are listed above. Right now, the Amazon Fire retails for $159 – that’s the same price as the Nook Tablet. Clearly, the two companies want your holiday dollars. It’s also worth pointing out that the Fire has a camera. You won’t be able to snap any photos with the Nook. Then again, that’s what your smartphone is for, right?

Further Price Drops: Unlikely

If you’re waiting for pricing on the Nook and Fire to drop further, you may have to wait awhile. Chances are that the Nook is priced as low as it’s going to go this pre-holiday season. Will Amazon drop Fire prices? Whether Amazon is ready and willing to drop Fire prices this month is debatable, but the company may do so just to compete with what Barnes and Noble is offering. If you are in the market for an e-reader and you like what the Nook has to offer, these are very good prices.

If you don’t care so much about pricing and just want better content, it’s still tough to beat what Amazon has to offer.
