Most people spend more time on social media sites than on any other site. If you log onto Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media site at least once per day, you might want to think about backing up your data. These sites tend to project the illusion that contact names, posts, and all of those other details are safe and secure. But, this isn’t the case. Everything you post to any social site is stored on the Cloud. When those services crash, you will lose all of your information.

You might be thinking: “so what?” Well, it’s easy to assume that you don’t need social media details. The truth, however, is that our social media accounts define us. Where did you put that recipe? What was it that you stated so boldly? What are the names of the Twitter users who spread the word about your brand? Who was on your contact list, again? These details can be wiped out at the blink of an eye. If social media, in any form, is important to you, backing up your social media accounts is the only course of action to take.

How to Backup a Social Media Account

Files can be backed up using an external hard drive. It’s not so easy to backup a social media site, though. In order to do this, you will have to choose the right service. There are a myriad of services to choose from. Two of the best comes from Amazon and a site called Backupify.com.

Backupify.com {{https://www.backupify.com/|backupify}} is really a photo and image backup service. Think about all of the photos and videos you post on your social sites. Isn’t it clear why Backupify.com has more than 80,000 users and growing? This site also happens to be free. Backupify.com includes ways to backup photos and videos from nearly every social site. You can also use Backupify.com to backup data from Gmail and Google Docs. Once you’ve logged into this service, Backupify.com really does everything for you. The site updates your backup details every 24-hours, so your photos and videos are always kept safe.

Backupify.com has one caveat that should be considered. This site will store all of your data on Amazon’s Simple Storage site. This site is entirely secure, but it does mean that you don’t necessarily own all of your data, since you don’t have direct access to it. I recommend reading the fine print before allowing Backupify.com to operate. Don’t take this as a warning not to use Backupify.com, though, this site is really useful, secure, and a great idea if you want to backup images and videos.

The other site that really focuses on Facebook more than any other network is SocialSafe.net {{http://www.socialsafe.net/|Social Safe}} In contrast to Backupify.com, SocialSafe.net provides users with an application that can be downloaded and stored on a personal computer. This application, in turn, stores all backed up data. SocialSafe.net comes with three different membership options. You can purchase a single membership (will backup one profile) for $3.99 yearly; 4 profiles for $4.99 yearly; or 10 profiles $13.99 yearly. This site has been touted as one of the best on the web for Facebook backup due to its simplicity and security.

In the end, the choice between the two best options (SocialSafe.net and Backupify.com) comes down to whether you want to store your data on your home computer or on Amazon’s servers. Both are great options, and both will prevent you from losing all of your social data when those sites go down.
